If you have either pets or children, there are a few things you should think about before buying a fountain.

You know how your pets and children will react to the fountain. If you believe your pets, or even your children, will drink the water, they you will likely not want to use Fountec in the fountain.

It is generally a better idea to put a fountain on a table rather than in a wire stand if you have pets and children because the table will be much more stable than the wire stand. Cats tend to jump onto things, children run through the house, throw things and will reach up to play in the fountain.

Dogs can jump while playing. Any of these scenarios can cause the stand to tip over causing water to spill out of the fountain. If you are not sure that your children and pets can be trusted to stay away from the fountain and not play in it, you should probably make sure it is on a very stable surface.

There are a variety of fountains available such as the tiered slate models which are fairly stable. Taller fountains, such as the monoliths and some other models, are less stable and will be more easily spilled by curious kids or climbing or racing pets.
